My name is Koalani Lahr, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in San Diego, CA. I was born and raised in Hawaii, and I feel that my work and passions are deeply rooted in my multi-cultural heritage. I have lived in California for 15 years, and received my Masters in Marital and Family Therapy from the University of San Diego. I have worked in youth homeless shelters, inner-city schools, on military installations, and in hospitals. I completed my internship and became a licensed clinician at Rady Children’s Hospital Outpatient Psychiatry, and it was here that I fell in love with the childhood wonder that is child and family therapy. For several years now I have been working with military families, empowering new and expecting parents during their transition into parenthood. It has been an absolute honor to be able to sit in a safe space with individuals, couples, and their families, and to fully be human.

I find joy in incorporating mindful and spiritual practices into my therapeutic work. I welcome faith-based discussions for those who find value in weaving their faith, prayer, and spiritual journeys into the therapeutic process. And for my non-faith based clients, my clinical training and background provide for a safe and nonjudgmental environment in which we can explore life’s challenges, slow down, and prioritize you and your needs.

I am passionate about finding the balance in our lives, practicing self-compassion, and prioritizing the self. It is one of the healthiest things you can do. And honestly, this comes with its challenges. I am familiar with and understand the challenges of navigating a balanced life while staying connected with others…it is hard work! But remember, we are all works in progress. It is a muscle that needs to be worked out. So think of me as your personal trainer in matters of healthy thoughts and emotional well-being.

In my free time I am spending it with my husband, hiking San Diego trails, taking a dance class, traveling, or visiting as many of my 12 nieces and nephews as I can!
