Finding the right therapist matters!

You deserve more than someone who simply listens. You deserve someone who helps you feel safe enough to be honest, slows things down when life feels overwhelming, and reminds you that you don't have to carry everything all by yourself.

Koalani Lahr, LMFT, postpartum and anxiety therapist in her San Diego office.

Aloha, I’m Koalani—Postpartum & Anxiety Therapist, boy mom, perinatal mental health specialist, and someone who was terrified to learn that baby poop can actually shoot all over the walls.

I built my practice so that you could have a place where you can say the things you’re afraid to say out loud, sort through the messy stuff, and feel understood—without judgment.

Maybe you’re the one who has it all together. You work hard, remember the appointments, meet the deadlines, and hold yourself to standards you would never expect from anyone else. The perfectionist. You’re functioning, but you’re probably hyper-functioning. And you’re doing it all while internally screaming.

Maybe becoming a parent has been harder than you expected. You love your family deeply, but you’re overwhelmed, feeling disconnected, and unsure of yourself. You’re crying more than you want anyone to know, feel guilty for needing anything because you chose this, and you’re just getting through the day while feeling like you’re failing at everything.

What you’re feeling is valid. You’re human, and doing the best that you can. And it’s going to take more than a 5-minute escape scrolling your phone to feel grounded and regulated again.

Meaningful therapy begins with feeling safe. Because when trust is there, you don't have to filter yourself, perform, or pretend you're okay.

Koalani Lahr, LMFT, smiling in a professional portrait.

I have always been the person who figures things out. The one who plans, notices what needs to be done, and holds everything together—even when it feels like too much.

I believed that if I didn’t do it, no one else would. I felt guilty that I wasn’t doing enough, worried about disappointing others, and struggled to let myself be supported (still do). Becoming a mother brought this to the surface.

Alongside the joy of motherhood, I experienced isolation, emotional disconnection, chronic exhaustion, and moments where I didn't feel like myself. I was tired of living in survival mode, and something had to give.

Here's what changed: I learned that being strong doesn't mean doing everything alone. Asking for support doesn't mean I can't handle hard things—it means I don't have to carry everything by myself. And neither do you.

Taking care of yourself isn’t something you have to earn after everyone else is taken care of.

You’re already trying so incredibly hard to stay afloat. You’re taking care of everyone else, thinking things through, and doing everything you can to keep life moving forward. The problem isn't that you aren't trying hard enough. You’re exhausted from trying to carry too much for too long.

What working with me feels like:

Koalani Lahr, LMFT, postpartum and anxiety therapist in San Diego, CA.

AUTHENTIC

I show up as a real person, not just a therapist. Some days I'll have my coffee in hand, my hair in just a bun, and life happening around me too. My hope is that you'll feel just as comfortable showing up exactly as you are—without pressure to perform or have it all together.

INCLUSIVE

You don't have to explain or minimize the parts of yourself that make you who you are. Your identity, culture, relationships, beliefs, and lived experiences are welcomed with curiosity, respect, and care.

COLLABORATIVE

Therapy isn't something I do to you—it's something we do together. I'll meet you where you are, adapt to what you need, and work at a pace that feels supportive, whether you're navigating anxiety, life transitions, or rocking a baby during session.

INTENTIONAL

I believe meaningful change takes time. We won't rush toward quick fixes or surface-level solutions. Instead, we'll slow down, get curious, and create lasting change that feels genuine and sustainable.

It genuinely gets better with the right support.

And I would love to connect with you.

We all deserve a space where we can show up fully human, bring the mess, and get support.

Outside of the therapy room, you’ll probably find me chasing down my two energetic (sometimes feral) boys, sitting down to coffee with a friend, or walking outside listening to a podcast or audiobook. As a proud elder millennial, I’m a huge fan of movies and TV from the '80s, '90s, and early 2000s—I tend to think in movie quotes and song lyrics. I love to dance and will happily spend hours watching all forms of dance. Speaking of dance, I truly believe that this season of DWTS is a love letter to Millennials! Voting for Taylor Hanson feels like I’m voting on TRL again. I unapologetically love Harry Potter, and I create a Harry Potter-themed Halloween for my front yard every year.

My Native Hawaiian culture and connection to Indigenous communities are deeply important to me. And I just started dancing hula again with a bunch of moms who desperately need to get out of the house too.

Yes, I am a therapist. But I’m also a mom who is doing the hard work too. I’m battling my own perfectionism and hyper-independence, healing my own nervous system, and learning to set healthy boundaries. And I truly believe that with the right support we got this!
